Death Comes Quickly To Man Who Lived On Same Farm 63 Years. The death of Samuel Raby occurred last Friday afternoon and his sudden passing removes another pioneer of this vicinity who has always resided on the farm where he was born, about two miles east of this city. Mr. Raby was engaged in planting corn in one of the fields near his house and was suddenly stricken, falling to the ground with the corn planter in his hand. Vern Ladow, who was assisting him in the same field saw him fall and immediately went to the house and notified Mrs. Raby, who with Mr. Ladow hurriedly went to his assistance after calling Dr. G. A. Stanton, but he was past all help his life had gone out. The doctor arrived and after an examination found that medical skill was of no avail, the stroke of death had come quickly. Arthur Fitzjohn, the undertaker, for Ballard & Lloyd was called and with the assistance of neighbors the body was removed to the house and prepared for burial. Mr. Raby had not been feeling well but was able to work about the farm as usual and being anxious to get in his crops undoubtedly endeavored to do more than he should have done. He was sixty-three years old and had always lived on the place which his father, Samuel Raby, took up from the government, in 1847, after coming here from England. He married Miss Emma White, thirty-two years ago together they have acquired more land from time to time the farm comprising 180 acres at the present time. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Morey, of Lansing and Artie Raby, of Greenville. The deceased also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Antcliff, of this city and Mrs. Murray, of South Boardman. The funeral was held at the late home, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. W. J. Rook, pastor of the Congregational church, officiated and Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Lapham sang appropriate hymns. A beautiful floral piece from a Lansing greenhouse where their son Morey works, graced the fine casket and his remains were laid to rest in River Ridge cemetery. The bearers were August Bakeman, Vern Ladow, Smith Nichols, Will Skopee, Floyd Bush and Carey Nichols.
