Dec. 1, 1949 WESTPHALIA VETERAN TO BE BURIED FRIDAY Sgt. Rademacher Was Killed While Serving With Air Force The remains of Sgt. Martin J. Rademacher, first Westphalia World War II veteran reported killed in action, were returned to Westphalia for burial on Tuesday evening. First word that he had been reported killed in action over Hungary in November, 1944, was received by the parents, March 7, 1945. He had been reported missing in January. A memorial Mass was held on March 12 at St. Mary's Church, Westphalia. Martin entered service October 7, 1943, at the age of 19 years, received his training at Kessler Field, Miss., and at Gunnery School, Laredo Army Air School, Laredo, Texas, where he graduated in March 1944 and received a diploma and a pair of Aerial Gunners silver wings. After this he was sent to Hammer Field, Fresno, Calif., and later received a 15 day furlough before leaving for Muroe, Calif., where he was stationed for two months before being sent to New York, where he left for overseas in August of 1944 and was a tail gunner and assistant radio operator on a B-25 Liberator bomber with the 15th Bomber Squadron. He had completed 25 missions when reported missing in action in January and no word had been received in the meantime. The 454th and the 455th Bomber Squadron, wo which he was attached received a Presidential Citation presented by Major General Twining., this was the first "joint" citation awarded in the history of the Army Air Forces. Sgt. Rademacher was born June 27, 1925, and was an only son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rademacher. His father, a World War I veteran died several months ago. He too was accorded a military burial. The mother survives and there are four sisters, Mrs. Walter Fox of Lansing, Mrs. Martin Thelen, a twin sister of Fowler, Mrs. Donald Trierweiler and Monica Rademacher of Westphalia. The father died June 18, 1949. Military funeral services will be conducted at St. Mary's Church, Westphalia at 10 a.m. on Friday under the direction of E.J. Werner, Post No. 3733 Veterans of Foreign Wars. All ex-service men officers, Reserve Corps, Enlisted Reserve Corps and National Guard in uniform and insignia of their branch of service will attend the funeral.
