Raffler, age 87 of Lake Odessa, passed away on April 29, 2015 at Fairview AFC in Grand Ledge. He was born on September 10, 1927 to Vernice and Lucille in Woodland. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1945. Arthur married Marcia Garlinger on Easter Sunday in 1951 at the First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa. They made their home in Lake Odessa and that union gave them two children. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII including tours to Japan and China. Over the span of many years, Arthur worked as a meat cutter at Garlinger’s Market, A&P, Kroger and Jones Farm Market in Saranac. He was a member of Masonic Lodge F&AM 178, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 161, VFW Post 4461, Lake Odessa Historical Society and the First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa where he held many positions. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed watching family sporting events, gardening, and was an ardent card player in the Raffler clan. Arthur is survived by his loving spouse of 64 years, Marcia; special sister-in-law, Laurel Garlinger; son, Frederick Arthur Raffler of Hastings; daughter, Nancy Ann Mattson of Lake Odessa; two granddaughters, Laurel Mattson, Tracy (Corey) Dahms; two grandsons, Mark (Marlene) Raffler, Kurt (Kim) Raffler; eight great grandchildren, Anna Dahms, Addison Dahms, Camden Raffler, Corbin Raffler, Quentin Raffler, Bryson Raffler, Lincoln Raffler, Rowan Raffler. Visitation will be held at Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Congregational Church in Lake Odessa, on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 2 p.m. Interment will take place in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa, Lake Odessa Historical Society, or the VFW Post 4461.
