Mrs. Rainey graduated from the University of Michigan as a registered physical therapist and began working with the physically handicapped in the Kalamazoo Intermediate School District. She also worked for the Ionia Intermediate School District at a physical therapist for the impaired. After 19 years with ISD, she left in 1995 to become Belding Public School District Special Education Coordinator. She was serving a second term on the Portland Board of Education and was responsible for the planting of many trees in downtown Portland via the Green-up Portland Project with Karen Wambaugh. Survivors include her husband, Derek; two daughters, Jocelyn and Britta; one son Rex; parents, Robert and Joanne McLeod of Saginaw; three sisters, Patricia (Scott) Williams of Traverse City, and Martha Neumann and Susan McColgan, both of Saginaw. Services were held Aug. 31, at Portland United Methodist Church, with Rev. Elaine Buker officiating. Interment followed at Portland Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research. Arrangements were handled by Gorsline-Runciman Neller Chapel in Portland.
