Portland Observer - 15 April 1920
Mrs. Jerome B. Randolph, an aged and highly esteemed Portland woman, died at 
5:45 o'clock Sunday morning at her home on the west side, where she had been 
under the care of her daughter, Mrs. Hattie M. R. Goss, for several years.  She 
had been failing slowly for some little time, but on the Tuesday preceding her 
death she suffered a fall, which undoubtedly hastened her demise.

Born at Livonia, Mich., May 25, 1834, Mrs. Randolph was crowding 86 years of 
age and at the time of her death, and she had long been quite feeble.  Her 
maiden name was Betsy K. Welsh and she was married to Mr. Randolph at 
Northville, Mich., September 14, 1854.  After their marriage they lived in 
Lansing for several years, where Mr. Randolph was employed at the state house 
and later on they located on a farm in the southern part of Westphalia 
township, Clinton county, where they resided continuously for about 35 years, 
coming to Portland in 1907.  Mr. Randolph passed away January 14, 1917.  Mrs. 
Goss, of Portland, is the only child surviving this marriage.

Out of town people who attended the funeral Wednesday afternoon were Mrs. 
Charlotte Goss and daughter, Vera, of Lansing, and Mrs. Adah Pilkinton and 
granddaughter, Aileen Moore, of Eaton Rapids, C. N. Welsh, a nephew, of 
Northville, Mich., had planned to attend, but on account of the railroad strike 
reached here too late.  He returns to Northville this evening.  A number of 
other outside friends had planned to attend, but they, too, were kept away on 
account of the strike situation.
