Sophia L. “Sophie” Ranger. 75, of Orleans, died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 
Metron of Greenville.

Sophie was born on March 7, 1934 in Northport, Mich. the daughter of Elden and 
Helga Johnson Dame. Sophie graduated from the University of Michigan with a 
Bachelors of Arts in Music and later taught music at several Ionia County one 
room schools at St. Peter and Paul Elementary School in Ionia and she gave many 
private piano lessons. Sophie was a member of the West Michigan Chapter of the 
National Federation of Music Clubs, the Ionia Music Teachers Association and of 
the Smyrna Bible Church where she sang and directed the church choir. Sophie 
had a life long love of music. She enjoyed reading and traveling making it to 
48 of the 50 states.

She was married on June 21, 1958 in Northport to George E. Ranger and he 
survives along with their children, Nancy Ranger of Cedarville Ohio, Linda 
(Greg) Frye of Monroe, Ohio; two grandchildren, Mackenzie Frye and Jordan Frye 
and three sisters, Gladys Carlson of Missouri, Kathie (Bill) Johnson of Port 
Huron and Roberta (Frank) Ditzler of Northport.

Sophie was preceded by her parents and one daughter, Janet Ranger in 1974.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Smyrna Bible Church with Rev. 
Michael Jones and Rev. Darwyn Hassert officiating. Interment will follow in 
Orleans Township Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6:30-8:30 
p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorials may be given to 
Smyrna Bible Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may also be 
given to the Ranger Family at the Website of the funeral home; www.jffh.com.
