Belding Home News – Thursday, 4 December 1879
On Thursday last Mrs. Mary W. Ranney, wife of Geo. Ranney of this place, was 
taken severely ill with what at first was thought to be diphtheria, but which 
proved to be a severe case of eyresipelas.  All efforts to stay the disease 
proved futile, and on Monday morning she died.  Mrs. Ranney was adopted by 
Mrs. Jane Wilson when 7 years of age, and by this adoption became sister to D. 
E. and R. M. Wilson and Mrs. Wm. A. Luther of this place.  Soon after the 
death of Mrs. Jane Wilson, some 17 years ago, she found a home in the family 
of W. A. Luther, and continued a beloved member of the family until her 
marriage to Mr. Ranney, some 5 years since.  By her virtues and sympathizing 
nature she won for herself a large circle of friends.  She was 32 years old at 
the time of her death.  The funeral at the Christian Church yesterday was 
attended by a large concourse of friends.
