Howard E. Ransom, 77, died Dec. 28 at Ionia County Memorial Hospital.  He was 
born March 20, 1912, in Ionia Township, the son of Oliver and Amanda Howard 
Ransom.  He was married to the former Vivian Snyder and they celebrated their 
54th wedding anniversary Dec. 21.  He had been a farmer in Ronald Township 
since 1943.

He became Ronald Township supervisor in 1970, a position he held at his 
death.  Prior to serving as supervisor, he was Ronald Township clerk form 1963 
to 1970.  He was a charter member of the Ionia State Police Post Resource 
Committee in 1974.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Ionia, and a life member of 
the Palo and Sheridan Masonic Lodges.  A member of Ronald Grange, he served 
the Grange both as overseer and master.  He worked for many years at Mitchell-
Bentley Corporation in Ionia.

Surviving are his wife Vivian; two sons, Ronald and Donald Ransom, both of 
Ionia; a daughter, Mrs. James (Carol) Snyder of Mount Holly, N.J.; two step 
grandsons, Bryan and Bret Crino; a brother, Gordon Ransom of Edinberg, Texas; 
two sisters, Bernice Reyburn of Kent City and Thelma Gustafson of Grand Ledge; 
and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip, 
and a brother, Kenneth.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from Cook Funeral Home, Ionia, 
with the Rev. F. Michael Valentine officiating.  Burial will be in Woodard 
Lake Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. 
Saturday and from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.  Memorials have been established for 
First Christian Church of Ionia and the Ronald Grange, in care of the funeral 
home.
