All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Pat Blood pat.blood@gmail.com June 4, 2011, 2:12 pm Ionia Sentinel Standard – Thursday, 3 February 1927 Last Thursday afternoon Mrs. Elizabeth Ransome, 78, who for more than a half century was a resident of Orleans township, received injuries when she was stepped on by a horse at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Byron Haskins, on the State road, and her death occurred there Wednesday evening at 9 o’clock as members of her family were getting her ready for the night. However, it is not thought that her death was caused by the injuries which she received at the time of the accident last week. She had gained rapidly since that day and was making plans to (unreadable) a chair Thursday. Mrs. Ransome, who had been at the home of her daughter only a short time, had gone to the barn with a pail when the horse came into the barn and knocked her down. She received injuries about the abdomen and other bruises. Members of the family believe her sudden death Wednesday evening was caused by her heart. It was thought by the attending physician and those assisting in the care of Mrs. Ransome that no internal injuries were received. For the past 58 years, Mrs. Ransome had been well known among Orleans township’s residents. Orleans Township located just west of the railroad track on what is commonly known as the Wood’s corner road. After disposing of her small farm only a few weeks ago she went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Haskins to reside. Her husband William Ransome, died 18 years ago. Mrs. Ransome was born in the state of Pennsylvania in 1849. She is survived by three children, Mrs. Byron Haskins, at whose home she died, Mrs. William Hogan of Smyrna and William Ransome of Orleans. She also leaves nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held from the resident of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Haskins in Orleans Township Saturday afternoon at 7 o’clock eastern standard time. Burial will be made in the family lot at the Orleans cemetery.
