Rasey Dies After Long Illness Carl L. Rasey passed away at his home on Morton avenue Thursday morning, just at sunrise. He had been ill eighteen months and for several months had been in bed. He was born in Greenville, June 29, 1891. He was married to Letha May Moon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Moon, May 31, 1916. During World War I he contacted black dyphtheria enroute to Europe and was taken to a government hospital when he landed in Bordeaux, France, and spent several months there. Upon his release, for the remainder of his 18 months overseas service, he was mess sargeant in a Cement-Mill Company in France. He lived with his family in Grand Rapids for a number of years, but his health was impaired from his serious illness in Europe. Twenty-two years ago he had a severe stroke and had been in failing health since that time. The family came to this city 16 years ago. He was a member of the First Baptist church and Men’s Brotherhood and as long as his health permitted, an active worker for the church. He was also a member of the DAV. His survivors include his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Robert Pratley of Marshall; Mrs. Philip Bolinger of Lansing and Mrs. John Elliott, of Abington, Va.; four grandsons; four sisters, Mrs. Florence Means, Lansing; Mrs. Lula Caldwell, Battle Creek; Mrs. Ernest VanderCook, Dundee, and Mrs. Carrie Mills, Lyons. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 at Fitzjohn Funeral home, Rev. Gustave Ferre of Rio Grande, Ohio, officiated, Mrs. Charles Rose furnished organ music and Mrs. Elwyn Williams sang “Abide with Me” and “Sunrise Tomorrow.” Leakey Dulek Post DAV conducted graveside services at River Ridge cemetery where interment was made in the family lot. Pall bearers were Gordon Leppink, Clayton Campbell, Edgar Oberlin, Harry Trull, Burr Smith and Charles Cowles.
