L. RASMUSSEN LOOSES HIS LIFE. TERRIBLE ENDING OF A HARDWORKING MAN. BUILDING COMPLETELY RUINED. ------------ LEWIS TERRY SUFFERS LOSS. NO LOCATION YET DECIDED UPON ------------ At about 3:20 Wednesday morning the fire whistle awakened every household in the village with its shrill tones and immediately the news flew from one to another "the bakery is on fire." In a very short time the fire department was working with might and main to extinguish the flames, which already were almost all through the building. The first thought was for "John" as he was familiarly called to open the doors, which were locked. Not finding him, someone went to the home and not finding him at home the search and work was continued, the men breaking open the doors to enter the water. When the doors of the basement were forced open Mr. Rasmussen's body was found, but so disfigured and charred as to be hardly recognizable. The body was taken to Weed's morgue and was put n the best condition possible. Mrs. and Mrs. Glendon Scheidt, who reside in the second story of the adjoining building on the south, belonging to the Scheidt's have most of their belongings packed and many things removed on account of the close proximity of the fire. Some damage was done in their apartments by smoke and water. The building was completely ruined. It contained in the north end another division which has been used for yeas as a barber shop run by Lewis Terry. Mr. Terry's loss is upwards of $100. The loss of Mr. Rasmussen is estimated at about $2,000, and the building probably another $2,000, making a total loss of about $5,000. It is understood that a fair amount of insurance is carried. Mr. Terry has not yet secured another location. Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen came to Lake Odessa twelve years ago. Mr. Rasmussen has been a very hardworking man, up early every morning and working late at night. He has been seconded by his wife who has helped in the front part of the bakery. Mr. Rasmussen leaves besides his wife one son, Raymond, eleven year old. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the home on Fifth Ave., and burial was at Lakeside cemetery.
