Belding - Donald E. Ratay, 65, of Orleans passed away Saturday, May 31, 1997, at
his residence.  He was born Jan. 15, 1932 in Munhall, Pa., the son of  Edward C.
and Margaret Baggley Ratay.

He was a supervisor of maintenance for 15 years with Whittar Steel in Detroit
and was employed as a foreman for many years with J & L Steel Co. in Detroit. 
He was a member of Shiloh Community Church.  

He was married to Hilda Higham on Sept. 6, 1952, in Munhall.  She survives with
their children, Becky and Paul Knoerl of Rockford, Melissa and Steven Rose and
Mark and Kathy Ratay of Berkley, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home,
Belding,  with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating.  Interment will be in Orleans
Cemetery.  Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral
home.  Memorials may be made to the Ionia Area Hospice.
