Rathbun Passed Away Friday Lived In Odessa Most of His Life, Coming to the Village of Bonanza Before There was a Lake Odessa. One by one the early residents of this village are passing and are being numbered with the silent population on the hill overlooking beautiful Jordan lake. George Rathbun is the last one of these early residents to answer to the last roll call. Last Friday at the age of 73 years Mr. Rathbun, after months, almost years of ill health, died at his home in the village. The funeral was held at the home at 2 p.m., Sunday, Rev. R.A. Hoffman of Calvary U.B. church preaching the sermon. Burial was at Lakeside. The Rathbun family was one of the earliest families to come into this part of the county. Settling on an arm northeast of Tupper lake, then later on a farm near Bonanza. The father of George Rathbun with the aid of his sons established a butterbowl factory near the corner of what is now the northeast limit of the village of Lake Odessa. When the demand for butterbowls was insufficient for profitable business the sons turned to the occupation of masonery. The old father, the sons and the grandchildren have been associated with the history of this village many years and had their share in the life of the town and its advancement. Obituary George D. Rathbun was born in Pioneer, Ohio, July 30, 1860, and died January 5, 1934, at the age of 73 years, five months and five days. He was united in marriage to Johanna VanAman and to this union two children were born, Fred at home and Clark of Lake Odessa. He leaves three grandchildren and one greatgrandchild, and three brothers, Edward of Lansing, Alton of Grand Ledge, and Neuman of Hamberg.
