Wednesday July 19, 2000 Beatrice L. Rathburn Mrs. Beatrice L.Rathburn, 90, of Ionia passed away Sunday, July 16, 2000, at Ionia County Memorial Hospital in Ionia. Beatrice LouElla Rathburn was born on May 5, 1910, in Easton Twp., the daughter of Ford and Pearl (Palmiter) Rowley. She attended Goodwin County School and graduated in 1928 from Ionia High School. Bea married William Henry Rathburn in Ionia on April 28, 1934, and he preceded her in death on June 25, 1979. She was employed by Ionia dentist, Dr. Wincell, and started working at the Ionia AC Spark Plug factory during WW II. She worked at the same location for 23 years as the factory changed hands, finally retiring from Gen. Corp in 1972. In addition to helping her husband on the farm, Bea was an avid hunter and fisherman, She also enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful flowers. Bea is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Grueber of Traverse City; grandchildren, Kevin (Heidi) Grueber of Rome, GA, Shelly (Charles) Duke of Dallas, Texas; Kurt (Barb) Laux of Ionia. Terry Laux of Muncie, Ind., Wendy Laux of Davisburg, James Gasper of Saranac, Gina (Chad) Blasher of Belding and Michael Gasper of Saranac; eight great-grandchildren; sons-in-law, Fred Laux and James Gasper, several nieces and nephews. Bea was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Karen K.Gasper on March 21, 2000 and Connie L.Laux on Jan. 7, 1990; a grandson, Brian; and a great-granddaughter, Brianna; one brother, Kenneth Rowley and one sister Helen Bennett. Funeral services for Mrs. Rathburn will be held on Friday, July 21, 2000 at 11 a.m. from Easton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judy Downing officiating. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2 until 4 pm and 7 until 8:30 at Cook funeral Home, Rich Street, Chapel, Ionia. Memorial contributions may be made to Easton United Methodist Church or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Envelopes are available at Cook Funeral Home and will be available at the church.
