The daughter of Eldon and Blanche Hill Kendall, she was born in Ionia Aug. 26, 1921. Her early years were spent in Grand Rapids and Flint before she returned to Ionia. She was graduated from Ionia High School in 1939 and attended Osceola County Normal. She later was graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University. She began teaching at Literary Hall School and also taught at Piper, Spaulding, and Badder Schools and while at the latter was nominated for a teacher of the Year award. She retired from Saranac Community Schools in 1984 with 26 years of service. She was married to Ferd Tafel June 13, 1941, at Cheyenne, Wyo. He died Oct. 26, 1968. She was married to William Raven Feb. 3, 1972, at Grand Rapids; he survives. She was a member of the Yellow Rose Guild of Ionia County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Morrison Lake Country Club, and the Antlerettes Bridge Club. Surviving in addition to her husband are three stepdaughters, Pamela Broene and Rene Raven, both of Grand Rapids, and Shannon Wurschmidt of Boise, Idaho; a stepson, William A. Raven of Twin Lakes; her mother, Blanche Kendall of Ionia; a sister, Mrs. Donald (June) Faulkner of Ionia; and two nieces. Funeral services will be held from the Main Street Chapel of Montgomery Funeral Home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Keith Bovee officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial for Ionia Area Hospice has been established, in care of the funeral home.
