Rev. Frank Loomis, pastor of the Orleans and Saranac Methodist churches, officiated, and interment was in Orleans cemetery. Mr. Ray was born in Ohio and came to Alma when 20 years of age. Early in life he became an employee of the Pere Marquette Railway, serving them faithfully in responsible positions for over 47 years in various localities in the state. He retired from active service in 1926, and came to Orleans where he had resided until his death. He was a life member of the Clarksville Independent Order of Odd Fellows. In April, 1897, he and Miss Eva French, a former Belding silk mill employee, were married in Detroit, this union being made happy with two daughters, Mrs. Al Sherwood of Orleans and Mrs. L.J. Wandel of Ionia, who survive. Beside the three survivors mentioned, there are four grandchildren, Mrs. William Franch of Orleans and Mrs. Claude Schwartz of Ionia, both daughters of Mrs. Al Sherwood, and Mrs. Harold Stilwell and Mrs. Alan McKendry of Easton township, daughters of Mrs. Wandel of Ionia; and Billie, son of Mrs. William Franch of Orleans, a great-grandson.
