Raymond was born near Auburn, N.Y., April 29, 1837, and departed this life at her late home in Muir, July 21, 10:40 p.m., being in the 72nd year of her age. About the year 1863 she became the wife of George Bly, and to this union one daughter was born, Amy, who died 11 years ago. In 1868 the subject this sketch was married to Henry Eckley, at Whigville, Mich. Her home was near Flint until the death of Mr. Eckley. Six children came to bless this home, two having died in infancy. The loving children are Lula, wife of Bert Hill, and Adelbert, both of Flint, Frank and Lois Herbert, of Ronald township. In august 1901, she came to Ionia township to become the wife of John W. Fortune and a mother to his family of children. They resided on the farm northwest of Muir until they moved to the village nine years ago. At the age of 24 she became identified with the Baptist church at Whigville. Her interest in all good work never waned, and during the past winter did much work for the Red Cross. Mrs. Fortune was very fond of children and during her declining years much of her time was spent in the welfare of her little grand children whom she so dearly loved. Funeral services were held at the church of Christ, Friday afternoon, and on Saturday the remains were taken overland to Flint for burial.
