D. (Mell) Reading, 81, died at his home on South Kent street Sunday afternoon, just a day after he had become violently ill. He had been down town Saturday and on returning home, fell through the front door in a state of exhaustion from which he did not rally. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 at Neller funeral home, and burial will be in Portland cemetery. Mr. Reading had been a resident of this village for more than 20 years. For some time he had been nearly blind but got about town by use of his white cane. The wife, Sara, survives, as do two daughters—Mrs. Eva Wolfside, Kego Harbor, and Mrs. Alta Muste, Grand Rapids.
