Redick, 86, of Ionia passed away Sat., Sept. 1, 2001 at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born the son of Frank and Ada (Whitaker) Redick on Nov. 7, 1914 in Mecosta. He was the seventh of nine children. Melvin married the former Madaline Mitchell in 1936 in Charlotte. He was a former member of the Charlotte Masonic Lodge and a former Cub Scout Master. Melvin loved music, playing cards, fishing and playing horseshoes. He was a one-time city champion for horseshoes in Charlotte. Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Madaline; four sons, William (Marjory) Redick of Belmont; Mikel (Sharon) Redick of Grandville, Douglas (Mary) Redick of Wyoming and Robert (Diane) Redick of Ionia; eight grandchildren, Diana (Phil) Griffith of Jenison, Darryl Redick of Wyoming, Molly (Clark) Edson of Beaverton, Ore., Ryan Redick of Wyoming, Joseph Redick of Wyoming, Benjamin Redick of Wyoming, Nicole (Ken) Clemons of Lansing and Jacqueline Redick of Holland; two step-grandchildren, Aaron and Chad; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet Lloyd of Rock Canyon, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Rita Redick of Hasting, Glenora Redick of Lyons, numerous nieces and nephews; and special nephew, Phil Boyd of Charlotte. There will be a memorial service celebrating Melvin’s life at 3 p.m., Saturday at the Cook Funeral Home, Rich St. Chapel, Ionia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of West Michigan in care of the funeral home.
