The Portland Observer, Thursday, August 23, 1934

Last rites for Hiram Mortimer Reed, who for about three-quarters of a century 
resided in Portland, died last Thursday night after an illness of several 
weeks.  Funeral services were held Sunday at the Nazarene church, in charge of 
Rev. Raymond Smith.

Mr. Reed was born in Riley township, Clinton county, and came to Danby with 
his parents when a small boy, the family residing in a home that occupied the 
present site of the Danby grange hall, moving to Portland a number of years 
later, Mr. Reed engaging in the draying business.  About 50 years ago he was 
united in marriage to Miss Celia Neitz who passed away six years ago.  Dell 
Reed, a son, is the only surviving near relative.
