Reed, 77, lifelong resident of Ionia county, died Monday at 8:50 a.m. at an Ionia rest home, where he had been a patient for three weeks. He had been hospitalized at Butterworth hospital, Grand Rapids, for a number of weeks before being transferred to the rest home. Born March 22, 1881 in Berlin township, he was the son of Hosea and Clara (Harwood) Reed. He was married to Blanche Townsend August 28, 1900 in Lake Odessa. Mr. Reed retired from farming and moved to their home in Lake Odessa in 1919. Since then he had been a field man for Lake Odessa Canning company until three years ago, when he retired because of ill health. Mr. Reed was still a member of the board of directors of the company at the time of his death. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Malcolm (Iris) Tasker and Mrs. Bernice Howard, both of Dearborn; one son, Lloyd of Muskegon; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Floyd (Nellie) Roush of Clarksville and Mrs. Fay (Hazel) Bachelder of Grand Rapids, and four brothers, Ernest, James, Walter and Ray, all of Lake Odessa. The body is at the Pickens funeral chapel, where funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery.
