Merta Luella Reed, retired area teacher, died Monday at Christensen's Nursing Home
in Greenville at the age of 104. She was born Jan. 26. 1881. in Mapleton, Minn., the
daughter of the Rev. Daniel and Hulda Dann Reed. She was a member of Michigan State
University and Ferris State College alumni associations 

A son, Howard Dean Reed, preceded her in death in 1984. She is survived by a
103-year-old sister, Mrs. Nell Compton of Arcadia, Calif, a granddaughter. Mrs. Ken
(Nancy) Byrne, Belding; a grandson, Merton Dean Reed, Sterling; five
great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grand children.

Funeral services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Courser and Johnson Funeral Home in
Belding, the Rev. Kendall Harger officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memory
Gardens. Visitation at the funeral home begins today at 2 p.m. Memorial
contributions may be made to Orchard Hills Elementary School in Belding.
