April 17, 1933 THOMAS HOSEA REED EARLY PIONEER DIED Father of Ten Children, Leaves Nine Children Besides Widow. Funeral Monday Afternoon. Another familiar personage of this village bids farewell to family and friends and takes his journey to that unknown realm from which no man return. T.H.Reed, known by all in the village and surrounding country as Hosea Reed, passed away Saturday at his home on North Fifth Avenue. Mr. Reed had spent nearly all his entire life in this town and the township of Sebewa where he and his wife raised their large family of children, and thus became well known by their affiliation with the community's activities. The funeral was held at the home Monday afternoon, Rev. O.F. Bulman of Sparta preached the sermon. Burial was at Lakeside. OBITUARY Thomas Hosea Reed was born September 27, 1855, in Berlin township, Ionia county, and passed away April 22, 1933, at the age of 77 years, six months, 25 days. February 11, 1879, he was united in marriage with Clara J. Harwood, and to this union were born ten children. Ernest of Sebewa, Earl of this place, Mrs.Alice Townsend of Portland, Lenna who preceded him in death, 36 years ago, James of this place, Mrs.Nellie Roush of Freeport, Walter of this place, Mrs.Hazel Batchelder of Grand Rapids, Ray of Galesburg and Roy of this place. Besides Mrs Reed and the nine surviving children he leaves to mourn their loss 26 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of friends. Four years ago Mr and Mrs Reed celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. A true pioneer in every sense of the word he hewed his farm from the original forest and contributed his just share to the foundation and building of this great common wealth. Twenty years ago he removed from his farm in Sebewa to Lake Odessa where gradually failing health, produced the complications which resulted in his death.
