The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, date unknown
W. Clarence Reed, aged 96, of Reed City, went to be with his Lord and Savior 
on Friday, December 26, 2003 at Alter Care of Big Rapids.  Clarence was born 
November 25, 1907 in Ionia, the son of Burton and Vina Crane Reed.

Clarence graduated with the Ionia High School class of 1926.  He worked for 
his father at the Ionia West End Grocery, AC Sparkplug, Trojan Athletic Wear 
Co. and Meijer supermarkets.  He retired from Meijer in 1973.  He loved the 
grocery business with a passion.

Clarence was a member of First Christian Church of Ionia, the First Assembly 
of God of Grand Rapids and the Evart Assembly of God, along with the Ionia 
Blue Lodge, Commandry and the Masons.

Clarence was married to the former Mable Osborn of Lowell on December 7, 
1941.  That marriage ended in divorce in 1968.  He married the former Lena 
Ouderkirk of Grand Rapids on 1969 and she survived him.  Clarence was preceded 
in death by his parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Stewart 
LaDue.

Clarence is survived by his wife Lena; his daughter, Patricia (Robert) Zander 
of Saranac; grandchildren, Rebecca (Keith) Merwin of Battle Creek and Capt. 
Daniel Zander U.S. Army serving in Iraq; one niece, Janice (Michael) Schafer 
of Pewamo; cousins, great nieces and nephews, and the Ouderkirk children, 
Gary, Dick, Ron (Rhonda) Ouderkirk, Jim (Bea) Ouderkirk.

In keeping with Clarence’s wishes, no formal services will be held.  Cremation 
has taken place and a memorial service will be held in the spring.   Memorial 
contributions may be made to Ionia First Christian Church or Boston Saranac 
Historical Society of Saranac.
