Reed, Sr., age 80, formerly of Lake Odessa, passed away December 7, 2006 in Tucson, Arizona. Paul was born May 17, 1926 in Grand Rapids, the son of Walter A. and Uarda (Gorsuch) Reed, and grew up in Lake Odessa. He entered the U.S. Navy on June 6, 1944 at the age of 17, and served as a hospital corpsman in the Okinawa Campaign. he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, and the WW II Victory Medal. After his honorable discharge in 1946, Paul attended Albion College where he met his future wife, Shirley Gallandt. Paul and Shirley married in 1948, and together they moved back to Lake Odessa and raised a family of six children. In 1950, Paul joined the family business, the Lake Odessa Canning Company, ultimately serving as its president from 1962 until its sale in 1976. H was also the president of Reed Johnson Cold Storage company during this time. Paul as a trustee and board president of the Lake Odessa Public Schools. He served as vice president and director of the Michigan Canners and Freezers Association, and as a director, vice president, and chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Frozen Food Institute. Paul was also a member of the Distinguished Order of Zerocrats. He also served on the Michigan Health Department Committee on Migrant Housing. Paul’s career in the frozen food industry led him to positions in Atlanta, Georgia and Fresno, California, where he and Shirley lived until his retirement. In 1990, Paul and Shirley moved to Green Valley, Arizona, where he engaged in his great passion for golf. He also volunteered over 1,000 hours as a docent at the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson. Paul is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children and their spouses, Paul, Jr., Scott (Dianne), Christopher (Beth), James (Pam), Sally (Scott Meggs), and Clark (DeeDee) ; his 12 grandchildren, Erica, Kelly (Dalman), Holly, Chaz, Parker, Alec, Mitchell, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Kyle, Andrew, and Ashley; and his three great grandchildren, Neil, Owen, and Dominic. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Edward Davison, and his brother, Robert L. Reed, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas G. Reed, and Walter A. Reed, Jr. Paul was much loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
