Perry Reed, a respected resident of Portland for the past half century, passed away Tuesday morning at 9:30 o’clock at his residence on Kearney street. His death was caused by pernicious anemia, which developed from a stroke of paralysis suffered two years ago. He had been confined to his bed for the past five weeks, with no hope whatever for his recovery. Mr. Reed would have been 70 years of age had he lived until February 3d next, having been born at DeWitt, Mich., in 1850. In 1872 he was married to Caroline Mascho, of Grand Ledge, who survives him, as do four children, Fred Reed, of Portland, Allie Reed, of Lansing, and Henry Reed and Mrs. Alic Miller, of Danby. Mort Reed, of Portland, is a brother of deceased, and Mrs. W. T. Rozell, of Portland, Mrs. A. B. Ellis, of Danby, and Mrs. E. D. Williams, of Grand Rapids, are sisters. For several years preceding the loss of his health, Mr. Reed conducted a dray line in Portland. Funeral services are to be held at the late home Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. Floyd L. Blewfield, of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be made in the Portland cemetery.
