He had been a resident here for twenty-eight years, coming to this city from near Saranac. Mr. Clay lost his wife about twenty years ago, since which time until last summer he lived with his daughter, Mrs. Allie Knee in the Clay home. Recently he has occupied the house jointly with John Lewis, who purchased Mrs. Knee’s interest. For several months he has been in poor health gradually growing worse until the end came peacefully. Mr. Clay was born in Troy, New York. The funeral will be held Friday at ten o’clock in the Free Methodist church. His only relative living is his daughter, Mrs. Knee. Subsequent Publication: Wednesday, March 21, 1917 The remains of Henry Clay were consigned to their last resting place on earth last Friday, after the funeral service, which was held in the Free Methodist church Friday, Rev. J. Fred Iulg officiating. Rev. Iulg preached a very fine and impressive sermon. Miss Carrie Roger, Miss Sandy, Leon Francisco and Mrs. Iulg sang appropriate hymns. Frank Owen, Frank Wood, Wilbur Wood, Frank Roe and W. L. Halliday acted as pallbearers, the remains being interred in the old cemetery by the side of his wife. Since his death it has been learned from papers found in his possession that he was a veteran of the Civil war and his honorable discharge from the army gives his name as Henry Clay Reid under which name he was buried. It has also been ascertained that he formerly resided in Chili, N.Y., and came away from there about forty years ago, leaving a wife and children, and later married again, his last wife dying about twenty years ago in this city. Whether or not he was ever divorced from his first wife is not known. His only property which his legal heirs can share in after the indebtedness is paid, consists of a half interest in his late home which was deeded to himself and daughter, Mrs. Allie Knee, jointly several years ago.
