Rennells, 100 years, seven months and four days, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at his home on Banks Lake, Gowen. He was born in Dec. 6, 1901, in Ionia the son of Eugene A. and Mary T. Abbott Rennells. Steve married Florence E. Perro on Aug. 24, 1922 at Cadillac. He was employed by the City of Lansing for many years. He then worked for Meijer Corp. in the realty department. retiring in 1971. He served on the Oakfield Township Board as supervisor and also was assessor from 1973 to 1977. His civic activities also included being charter president of the East Lansing Exchange Club, district governor for the Exchange clubs, was a life member of the Blue Lodge F.&A.M. 105 of St. Johns and Scottish Rite Grand Valley Chapter of Grand Rapids, and member of Oakfield Township Historical Society, and Greenville First United Methodist Church. Steve and his wife were instrumental in the beginnings of the Methodist University Chapel at MSU and the Jaravis Acres Retirement Home in Diamondale and were former members of First United Methodist Church Lansing. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Florence Rennells on Nov. 26, 1987, his sons, Eugene, in 1984, and Donald, in 1996, his son-in-law, Ray Lorichon, in 1990, and three brothers and five sisters. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Vivian Lorichon of Tecumseh, and Shirley Ann and Gaylord Britten of Mauldin, S. C., two daughters-in-law, Joan Rennells of St. Johns, Joyce Rennells of Ithaca; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville with the Rev. Dr. Harry R. Johnson of Greenville First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Marion. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
