Renucci, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2011 in Fort Smith, Ark., with her family by her side. She was born on April 21, 1918 in Pewamo and preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Renucci; and two sisters, Alma Caston and Julie Sokolowski. She is survived by her son, William (Lynn) Renucci of Manton; her daughter LeeAnn (John) Pelon of Fort Smith, Ark.; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Lucille Kramer of Pewamo. Leona was a graduate of Pewamo High School and Western Michigan University. She was a member of the S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, The National Education Association, and The Michigan Education Association. She began her teaching career in a one-room country school, then went on to teach at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Westphalia, S.S. Peter & Paul Academy, and finally, the Ionia Public Schools. She retired after spending many years in a classroom. The family wishes to extent a special thank-you to Peachtree Hospice in Fort Smith for their care and kindness. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ionia.
