D. Reynolds, Wednesday morning, the county loses one of its oldest county-born and lifelong inhabitants. She had been in poor health several months and critically ill for weeks, dying at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Welch. Emma Jane Brewer, daughter of Abraham and Louisa Gilkes Brewer, was born at Dildine March 31, 1860 where she grew to womanhood, and where in 1880 she was married to William D. Reynolds, a near neighbor. As a child she attended the Dildine school, and then received further education in the Ionia schools. From the education she received in these two places, she was able to pass the teachers’ examination, teaching for several years. This dainty wisp of a woman was an inspiration to the community in which she lived. She loved her home, and although she would rather have remained there during her illness, she was of the type who readily adjusted herself to whatever seems best, and smilingly went to the home of her daughter a few weeks ago. She never relinquished her interest in school work, and indefatigably labored to make the Dildine school reunions full of interest. She kept a record of the deaths of former pupils of the district, wrote the biographies, and read the memoirs at the reunions. In spite of her home work and neighborhood activities she found time to aid the Dildine church in organization, growth and development, retaining her membership there until 1902, when she affiliated with the Ionia Methodist Episcopal church. This was during a residency here. In Ionia she continued in her ambitious way church work here, and for a time was the president of the east division of the ladies’ aid society. She possessed the degree of culture that had taught her the love of poetry and art. This major attainment will be found reflected on those who came in contact with her. She leaves her companion of 53 years, W. D. Reynolds; a son, Roy, of Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Welch and Miss Mabel Reynolds, Ionia; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. C. H. Reynolds, of Detroit, whose husband, Claire H. Reynolds, died July 9, 1930; grandchildren, William and Clnrice Reynolds, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Furtney, Detroit, and Douglas and Emma Jane Welch, Ionia, and William, John and Richard Reynolds, Tacoma, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Rosa Austin, Kemah, Tex.; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from the home of Mrs. Welch Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Dr. M. W. Duffey. Burial will be in the Easton cemetery.
