July 26, 1979 JOHN H. RHODES CLARKSVILLE - John H. (Jack) Rhoades, 73, of Morrison Lake, Clarksville died at the Kent Community Hospital in Grand Rapids on Monday after a brief illness. He was born in Kinston, Ala., Jan. 20, 1906, the son of James and Ella (Adams) Rhoades. He graduated from Kinston High School and married Evelyn Thompson Sept 28, 1929 in Lansing. He was a salesman for many years for the Chem-Trol Chemical Company, retiring in 1971. Since 1943 he and wife had spent summers in Clarksville where they farmed, moving to the area in 1962 from Lansing. Mr. Rhoades was a member of the Wesleyan Church, past president of the Wiseman Club in Lansing and past president of the Clarksville Lions Club. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; two sons, James and Ted of Clarksville, one brother, Jack of Florida, one sister, Mrs.Ralph Rix of California and nine grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Wesleyan Church in Clarksville. Burial is in the Clarksville Cemetery. Arrangement were handled by Pickens-Koops funeral chapel in Clarksville.
