Rhodes, aged about 24 years. Mrs. Rhodes was born in Mecosta County, and is said to have been the first white child born in the county. Her father, Edward L. Williams, enlisted in the union army in the war of the rebellion and was shot at Middletown, Va., Oct 19th, 1864. In 1867 her mother was married to W. A. Knott of this place, and from that time until her marriage to C. P. Rhodes, station agent at Trufant, in the fall of 1874, was a resident of Belding. She was a woman of a kind and generous nature, of more than ordinary social qualities, and endeared herself to a large circle of friends. About one year ago her health began to fail but no danger was apprehended until Saturday last when she became suddenly much worse and died as stated above. A special train brought the remains and friends to this place on Tuesday morning and the funeral was attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends at the residence of W. A. Knott.
