Pauline G. Rhodes, 80, of Belding, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Sept. 8, 
2009 at the Emergency Room of Spectrum Health United Memorial hospital in 
Greenville.

Pauline Grace Spencer was born Feb. 1, 1929 in Belding, the daughter of Thomas 
and Lillian McConnell Spencer. Pauline graduated from Belding High School with 
the Class of 1947 and later attended Tracy’s Beauty Academy. She owned and 
operated Pauline’s Beauty Salon in Belding for 35 years. Pauline was a member 
of the Belding United Methodist Church, Ladies Literary Club and the Red Hat 
Society.

She was married on Dec. 5, 1947 in Belding to Edward L. Rhodes, and he preceded 
her in death on Nov. 21, 2001. She was also preceded by her parents.

Pauline is survived by 3 daughters; Cheryel (Jim) Hamilton of Belding, Cindy 
(Rick) Rogusky of Ionia and Reva VanZoest of Belding; her grandchildren; Edward 
Hall, Tim (Sarrah) Hall, Jason (Melisa) Hall, Scott (Elaina) Hamilton, Danielle 
(Jason) Ryan VanZoest and Rachel VanZoest; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, 
Florence Hall of Belding; one brother, Elwood (Gloria) Spencer of Orleans; 
several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Dusty Rhodes and a sister-in-law 
Dean (Lint) Harwood, all of Belding.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Belding United Methodist 
Church with Pastor Connie Shatz officiating. Interment will follow in River 
Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at 
the Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorial contributions may be 
made to the United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association. Those
