Last summer he was known to walk from his Muir home downtown nearly every day, weather permitting. He was born January 3, 1867 in Van Wert, Ohio and celebrated his last birthday at the Manor. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rhodes. He was married in January 1897 to Margaret Gettings who died in 1957 at which time he came to Muir to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. George Johnston. He and his wife came to Montcalm county from Indiana in 1901 he was retired from the Ypsilanti Reed Furniture company in Ionia in 1925. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Johnston of Muir, seven grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; one brother Chester Rhodes of Elkhart, Ind. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shaw-Rivett-Hull funeral home in Muir. Rev. Theodore Forbes of Ionia First Christian church will officiate. Interment will be at Highland Park cemetery.
