R. Rice, at the Methodist church, on Sunday afternoon, was very largely attended, and was in every respect a very sincere testimonial of the high regard in which deceased was held in this community. The remains were accompanied from the late home by delegations of the retail grocers of the city, and Maccabees, the Woodmen, and a long line of the Oddfellows, who were joined at the church by a number of the Daughters of Rebekah. The service and sermon at the church was most sympathetic. Rev. Dr. Cogshall read portions of the 29th Psalm, and 1st Corinthians, 15th chapter, for the scriptures lesson, and based his discourse upon words found in 1 Samuel, 20:18, “Thy seat will be empty.” Deceased was an officer in this church, and it was the intimate and honorable relations between the pastor and his helper that prompted, perforce the good opinion of the one for the other. The carriers were selected from the several societies, G. B. Fleming, E. E. Slye, J. C. Beattle, Henry Cable, Harvey Moffatt, J. C. Christian, and James Hanigan as an honorable bearer from the grocers. Interment was in Highland Park.
