Mildred Pauline Rice, 85, of Portland, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in Delta 
Township, Eaton County.

Mrs. Rice was born Jan. 26, 1923 in Sebewa Township, Ionia County. She was the 
third daughter of Fred Charles and Nora Altha (Ritenburgh) Sindlinger. She 
graduated from Western Michigan University and was an elementary school 
teacher. On Dec. 24, 1944 she married Blanchard Allen Rice. Her hobbies 
included art, music reading, golf and swimming. She was a member of the United 
Methodist Church.

Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her husband in 2005 and her two sisters, 
Lucile and Margaret.  She is survived by her sons, Larry (Linda) Rice of 
Portland and Donald (Mary) Rice of Mulliken, four grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Friday and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Barker-
Leik Funeral Home in Mulliken. A private interment will be in Danby Cemetery. 
In lieu of flowers, donations my be made to the Portland District Library.
