Ionia County News - Thurs. Oct. 19, 1933


Funeral services were held in the Strouse & Stebbin funeral home, Sheridan, 
Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Mary T. Rice 98, who died Sunday at the home of her 
daughter, Mrs. Harvey Mulholland in Greenville.

Mrs. Rice was a native of England but at the age of four came with her parents 
to Nunda, N.Y. In 1856 she moved to Ionia County and taught several years in 
the Ionia county schools. At the age of 27 she was united in marriage to 
Corydon Rice. Ionia County until 1881 then moved to Douglas Township, Montcalm 
County. Mr. Rice died in 1911 and for a time she lived with her nephew, George 
Smith, at Palo. A year ago she went to the home of her daughter. She was the 
last of a family of 15 children.
