Jule A. Rice, 86, of 138 ½ E. Main street, Ionia, died Sunday at Blodgett 
Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids.  She was born on July 24, 1896, the daughter 
of Theron and Elizabeth Gogie Smith.  She married Clarence F. Rice in 1919 in 
Grand Rapids and has lived in Ionia since 1941.

She is survived by two sons: Stephen of Ionia and Clarence F. Rice II of Fort 
Worth, Texas; one daughter: Helen Scott of California; two brothers: Leo Smith 
of Zephyr Hills and Harry of Boyne City; one sister: Ruth Baxter of Grand 
Rapids; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Myers-Roetman 
Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Nixon officiating.  Burial will be in Muir 
cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.  A 
memorial has been established for the Ionia County Memorial Hospital Nursing 
Scholarship fund.  Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
