Ionia Standard, 1 Feb 1907

S. R. Rice, the east end grocer, died at 12:45 o’clock Friday, after an illness 
of but about a week.  Deceased operated the grocery in South Ionia for many 
years, but moved into the city last fall, when he purchased the Hickey stock of 
groceries.  He was more or less a prominent in fraternal affairs, being member 
of the Odd Fellows, Maccabees, Woodmen, Forresters, and also carried an 
insurance in the Bankers’ Life.  He was aged 39 years, and leaves a wife and 
three children.
