She was born on the farm west of the city owned by her father, John Welch, nearly 67 years ago. For twenty years she has resided at the home on Rice street where the husband died and where the light of her life went out. She is survived by her aged mother, Mrs. Nancy Welch, of West High street, and two sons, John and Harry, both residents of Ionia. Subsequent Publication: Friday, February 10, 1911 The funeral service for Mrs. Sarah Jane Rice, on Saturday last, at the late home on Rice street, was attended by many friends of the pioneer woman, Rev. G. W. Moore being assisted by Rev. D. H. Shelly, her neighbor of many years. Interment was in Highland Park, the casket being borne by four nephews; Frank Strong, Frank Welch, Byron and Ray Welch. Card of Thanks: The undersigned, the sons of the late Mrs. Sarah Jane Rice, most gratefully return their thanks to the kind neighbors and good friends who were so willingly helpful in her last hours, and for all the favors shown after she has passed to her eternal rest.
