Edna R. Rich, 94, of Portland, passed away on November 27, 2005. 

She was born on April 22, 1911 in Alpena, MI., the daughter of Joseph and 
Augusta (Paul) Swallow. Mrs. Rich was agraduate of Alpena Co. Normal and 
received her degree at Ypsilanti State Teachers College. She taught for many 
years in the Alpena School District retiring in 1973. Edna was a member of the 
First Congregational Church of Portland. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, sister Ethel 
MacIver and a brother, Roy Swallow. Surviving are a sister, June Keopfgen of 
Dayton, OH; son, Joe Rich of Lyons; grandchildren, Loren (Denise) Rich and 
Marcy (Mike) Lay all of Portland; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and 
nephews. At her request her body has been donated to Michigan State 
University. 

A Memorial Service was conducted by Pastor Marilyn V. Danielson on Dec. 2 at 
the First Congregational Church in Portland.  Arrangements were entrusted to 
the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.   For those wishing, memorial 
may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, 1210 W. Saginaw St., Lansing, 
MI. 48915.
