Ruben Rich died at his home in Spencer township on Monday, Nov. 11 at the age 
of  70 years, 7 months and 2 days.  Mr. Rich was born in Salem, Washtenaw 
county, Mich., April 9, 1848.  He was the youngest of a family of 12 children 
and at the age of 14 his parents both died and from that time on he was left to 
take care of himself.

His younger days were spent in Smyrna and vicinity.  When 21 years old he 
joined the Masonic order at Saranac.  When 30 years of age he came to 
Greenville where he was married to Mrs. Mary Osman and soon afterward they 
moved on to their farm south of Coral.  After living on that farm for eight 
years (that is the farm now owned by W.M. Rowland), Mr. and Mrs. Rich moved to 
their new farm in Spencer township where they have since resided.

Two years ago last April Mr. Rich was taken sick and it was found that a tumor 
had started growing in his stomach.  The tumor was never removed but kept on 
growing and Mr. Rich naturally kept on getting weaker and poorer in health 
until about a month ago when he had a stroke of paralysis and from that time on 
till his death he was confined to his bed.  During his long illness and 
suffering no one who talked to Mr. Rich has ever heard him complain nor say one 
mean word about it.

He leaves to mourn his loss his devoted wife and one step-daughter, Mrs. Wm. 
Hubbard.

The funeral was held Wednesday forenoon at 10 o’clock.  Interment took place at 
Coral cemetery, conducted by the Trufant lodge No. 455 F.&A.M., Past Master 
Shaver officiating.
