Rich, 49, Tampa, Fla., formerly of Belding, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at James A. Haley V. A. Hospital, Tampa. He was born Aug. 15, 1947, in Greenville, to Robert and Delores Aaron Rich. He graduated from Belding High School and Kirtland College. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Air Cavalry. He was a member of VFW Post 4406 of Belding. He was a mechanical engineer with a construction company. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Delores Rich of Belding; one daughter and son-in-law, Charity and John Thornton of Flagstaff, Ariz.; brothers and sister, Kim Rich of Tampa, Robert Lee Jr. and Jan Rich of Lake Orion, Zachary and Karen Rich of Clausen, Shawn Rich of Haslett, and Mary Rich of Grand Rapids; three nieces, Dodie, Kelsey, and Sarah Rich; two nephews, Christopher and Lucas Rich; his fiancée Leslie Kisielewicz, to whom he was to be married Aug. 29 of this year; two very loving and caring friends, Jim and Karen McKenna of Lakeview and Peter and Suzanne Halsall of Tampa; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by one sister, Andrea Rich, on Nov. 7, 1953. In his five-year battle with cancer, Steve gave all of us a lesson in courage. He never complained, he lived each day fully and always with hope. He continued to hang on to his dreams and plans for the future. He will be forever missed. Funeral services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, with Deacon Howard Scheid officiating. Interment will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
