The discovery was made by Andy Haberstumpf, a clerk in the saloon, when he went up to “tidy” the room. He at once notified C. H. Bradley, undertaker, and Mr. Bradley notified Coroner, C. S. Cook. A jury of inquest was impaneled, consisting of A. H. Geck, Fred Wortman, Lee Bull, L. V. Smith, John G. Flanagan and Chas. S. Piddington, who viewed the remains and adjourned to this morning. They met at City hall at 8:30, Prosecuting Attorney Burbank being present. Dr. Geo. P. Winchell was the first witness, and testified that he was called to view the body and from appearance judged that the man had been dead at least four hours, and possibly longer. There were no marks of violence and no indications of struggle. He judged that death resulted from heart disease. Andy Haberstumpf testified that the man engaged in lodging about 8:30 the evening before, and that he did not see him afterward, until he found him dead in bed. The room door was open, with key in lock on outside. He had been told that the man had been seen on the street about 10 o’clock the next morning. He appeared sober when he engaged room. The lodging rooms and restaurant in the building are leased and operated by Annie Butler. Louis Harmon saw Rich on street about 9:30 in evening, and seemed sober but melancholy. Rich was a blacksmith by trade, and had carried on business at Saranac for several years. He had been of intemperate habits. He was married, but separated from his wife. He leaves one child, a daughter, married and living in north part of state. He was 43 years old. The jury brought in a verdict of death from natural causes.
