Richards, long time area photographer, passed away Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998 after a brief illness. He was born August 5, 1932 in Ionia, son of Lester Richards and Flora (Greenfield) Richards. He was the owner of Bill Richards Studio in Portland until 1985 and Richards Studio in Vermontville until his illness. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Iona (Sprague) Richards of Vermontville; three sons, Dennis (Kristin) of Traverse City, Philip (Beth) of Lakeview, and Michael (Diann) of Nashville, Mich.; six grandchildren, Gabriel, Caitlin, Hannah, Allison, Lydia and Abby; one sister, Dorothy McCracken of Carson City, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters. There will be no visitation due to the donation to MSU Cancer Research. Private burial will be held at a later date. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Vermontville, Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to Eaton County Hospice or the Scholarship Fund at Maple Valley High School.
