(Catt) Richardson, 87, of Galveston, Indiana, formerly of the Lake Odessa area, died Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Sycamore Village Healthcare in Kokomo, Indiana. Hazel was born in Ionia County on December 14, 1916 to Orvin and Bessa Catt. She graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1935. Hazel worked as a teletype operator for Western Union in Fort Wayne during WWII. She had last worked as a bookkeeper for Maynard-Allen State Bank in Portland until her retirement in 1981. Hazel had been a member of the Sebewa Center United Methodist Church. In 1991 she moved to Indiana to be near her grandchildren. Hazel is survived by her daughter, Kay Meyers of Galveston, Indiana; her “son,” Howard A. Meyers; granddaughter and husband, Sara K. and Ryan McFarland of Muncie, Indiana; grandson, Adam D. Meyers of Galveston; and her friends, the residents and staff of Sycamore Village Alzheimer’s Unit. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Leroy and Pete Catt. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, at the Koops Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. A memorial service will also be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Galveston United Methodist Church with the Murray Funeral Home in Galveston handling arrangements. The family has suggested the memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Walk Team, “Sycamore Striders,” c/o Sycamore Village Healthcare, Kokomo, Indiana; or the Sebewa Center United Methodist Church.
