Richmond were brought to Portland, from Lansing, Tuesday, and laid to rest beside his wife who was buried in the Portland cemetery five years ago. Death occurred at the family home at Lansing, Saturday, and the funeral services were held from the residence Tuesday morning, with Rev. George, of the Mt. Hope Methodist church, officiating. Mr. Richmond was born in Howell, Mich., in 1858, and came to Portland with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Richmond, and settled in the home now owned by his brother, Mack, when he was 12 years of age. During his boyhood days in Portland he will be remembered as the ice man who, with Elijah Clark, used to carry ice, from the Richmond ice house with a wheelbarrow to customers. Later he worked on the railroad section for the late Dennie O’Connor. In 1878 he married Miss Lottie Grannel, of Cadillac, in the family home on Water street, and lived here until the year of 1879, when they moved to Riverdale. He at one time was a conductor on the old Detroit, Lansing and Northern, the branch of the Pere Marquette that runs from Grand Ledge to Big Rapids, before it was purchased from the D.L. & N. Deceased is survived by two sons, John, of Lansing; Alden of Grand Ledge; one daughter, Mrs. Rhea House, of Tampa, Florida; three sisters, Mrs. Mayme Joyce, of Portland; Mrs. Stella Sturdevant, of Coral; Mrs. Lena Hite, of San Francisco, Cal.; and one brother, Mack Richmond, of Portland.
