Richmond occurred at the home of her son Ira Richmond in Smyrna where she has been living this winter, Friday, April 10, 1908 at 5:30 a.m., aged 70 years. The deceased was one of the pioneers of Ionia county, a noble and generous woman, a kind and gentle mother, a friend to all and a loyal, true hearted Christian character. Abbie S. Babcock was born in Pownal, Vt., Oct. 28, 1837, she was one of five children, only one of whom is now living, Mrs. Eliza Myers of Brookfield, Mass. On November 14, 1904, she was united in marriage to Franklin Richmond of Adams, Mass., and to this union were born four sons, one of whom, Adelbert, died at the age of three years. There are left to mourn her departure the other three, Ira of Smyrna, Wilson G. and Whitman P. of Seattle, Wash. The funeral service was held from the M.E. church, Wednesday afternoon, where she so long worshipped, her pastor, the Rev. G.F. Craig, officiated. Her sons, Wilson and Whitman, made the journey from the west and were present at the funeral to pay their last respects to their beloved mother. There were also present many of the old residents and the profusion of lovely flowers attested the high esteem in which she was held. Her remains were laid to rest in River Ridge cemetery. [Transcriber's Note: The marriage date doesn’t make sense based on her age and her sons’ information, but it is typed as it appears in the obituary.] File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/r/richmond16180nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
