Richmond, age 59, of Lyons, passed away at Spectrum Butterworth in Grand Rapids, Feb. 20 from accidental injuries. Born in St. Paul, Minn. on Sept. 17, 1949 to Earl and Lucille Richmond. He is also the foster son of George and Mildred Koert. He married Deborah Kirby on Jan 20, 1973 in Lyons. He graduated from Zeeland High School in 1968, and attended Cornerstone College for a short time before joining the Army in 1969. He served in the Army from 1969 – 1977. He served tours in Japan, Vietnam and Korea. After departing from the Army he became a Corrections Officer at Riverside Correctional Facility and retired in 2002 with 24 ½ years. He felt called by the Lord to become Pastor of Lyons Baptist Church in June of 2008. He is survived by his wife Deb Richmond; son, Jonathan Richmond of Lyons; daughter, Dawn (Ryan) Thelen of Westphalia; grandsons, Dylan Richmond and Ryan Thelen Jr.; foster children, Brenda (Matt) Vugteveen of Hastings, William (Amanda) Cottrell of Marshall; brothers, Paul Richmond of Calif., Dave (Mary) Richmond of Ionia and Doug Orourke of Minnesota; sister, Rose Workman of Michigan; sisters-in-law, Pat Stevens of St. Johns and Irene (John) Flick of Fowler; brother-in-laws, Clayton Kirby of Auburn, Ind. and Raymond Brady, of Auburn, Mich.; father-and-mother-in-law, Ernest and Audrey Kirby of Lyons; foster father George Koert; foster brothers, Jeff and Pete Koert and their families of Zeeland; and also many nieces, nephews and great-nieces-and-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lucille Richmond; foster mother, Mildred Koert; sister, Vernona Brady; brother-in-law, Dennis Stevens; nephew, Garry Shields and foster sisters, Ann and Debbie Koert. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m. at Lyons Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Barton and Mr. Chris Click officiating. Interment Lyons Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Lyons Baptist Church. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home in Muir.
