Richmond, one of Lowell’s well known and much respected citizens, died at his home in this village, Saturday, November 2, after a very brief illness. Mr. Richmond was born in Brantford, Ont., June 1, 1821. In October 1844, he came to Michigan, settling in Kalamo, Eaton county. The following December he married Susan Lucas, of Ontario, and one year later removed to Keene, remaining there five years. He moved to Vergennes in April, 1851, where he resided 35 years, coming to Lowell in November, 1886. In the meantime his first wife had died, May 5, 1864, leaving nine children, and in May, ’65, he married Mrs. Eunice Vandecar. Five children were born to them and the 14 children with the sorrowing wife survive, to mourn the loss of husband and father. Besides wife and children, he leaves one brother, D. O. Richmond, of Woodstock, Ont., and one sister, Mrs. Phoebe J. Tunks, who has resided with her brother for several years. Mr. Richmond experienced religion at an early age, and though not a member of any of our village churches was a regular attendant at divine worship. He was one of the most frequent and welcome visitors at the Ledger office and we shall miss his cheerful face and pleasant manner. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the M. E. church, Rev. A. P. Moors officiating and the remains were interred in Vergennes cemetery.
